A faucet that is dripping, no matter how slow it is, will eventually cost you money over time. The dripping water can also be a big nuisance at night. If you have a sink that has separate handles for hot and cold water, you might want to follow these steps closely so you can get the problem fixed in no time:

First of all, you need to turn off the water that goes into the sink. There are valves located below the sink that you can twist to turn off the water flow. As soon as the water flow has been cut-off, you should then turn on the faucet to remove the remaining water.

Secondly, typical faucets have a cap that you can remove so you can unscrew the handle from the valve stem. You should remove the screw so you can get the faucet stem out.

Inside, there is a rubber gasket that you need to inspect for any wear and tear. It will act like a washer and it can be found at the bottom of the faucet stem. In most cases, this is the main cause for the dripping. You need to replace a worn-out or broken gasket, they do not cost a lot of money, and they can be easily purchased at the hardware store. If you are not sure of the specifications, you can take the old gasket and have it matched at the store.

Lastly, as soon as you get the replacement, you can start putting the faucet back together. Turn the water back on and test the faucet to see if the leak has been fixed.
